M.A.X: A Complete Guide to Media Literacy

TOMCAT-UST, the official events and media production organization of the University of Santo Tomas, will hold their very first student-initiated symposium known as “MAX: Media as Authors of eXperience”. An event that would educate the youth on media literacy which will be held on May 5, 2018 at the UST Central Laboratory Auditorium.

With the theme “Power of Change in the Digital Age,” this one-day media conference highlights the capabilities of the youth from current media consumers to potential media producers. It also aims to encourage the student body to be the spark of excellence in social media, digital media, mass communications and other forms of media.

Top notch media professionals invited to speak for this said event are TV host, actress, and the author of “Dear Alex” series, Alex Gonzaga, who will give her two cents on Vlogging being this generation’s new age of storytelling. She will be joined by T.V host, actor, comedian and educator for the University of the Philippines Film Institute, Ramon Bautista, and the national adviser of Youth for Mental Health Coalition and social media influencer, Dr. Gia Sison, who are both set to talk about the “Role of Social Media in Social Transformation”.

They will be joined by two other esteemed media specialists, co- writer and movie director of “I’m Drunk, I Love You.”,JP Habac (Conceptualization of ideas) and current Chief Operations Officer of Wheninmanila.com and celebrity fashion stylist, Sky Gavin. (Digital Media Virality)

Carmela Papio, M.A.X. project head and executive deputy director and TOMCAT-UST’s director for special projects tells us why a closer look on the facets of digital media and its effects to the society is important. “Digital media is an integral part of our generation. From the different applications we use for communication, news and leisure to being content creators with film and vlogs, there are endless possibilities with our abilities. Knowledge about social media literacy then is important because we ought to be accountable and legitimate with everything we post and click because everything online is interconnected”.
