Pedro Pascal look-alike contest crowns winner in New York

A winner has been crowned in the recent Pedro Pascal look-alike contest that was held in the streets of New York City’s Lower East Side.

The person who took the crown is Pedro #5 George Gountas as he had the closest resemblance to the actor.

Gountas works in the television business as a lighting designer for “The Daily Show.”

With his wife Jenny Gania telling him to join the contest, Gountas won $50 and a year’s supply of burritos courtesy of host Son Del North Mexican restaurant.

“It started when the Game of Thrones came out the first time — that’s when we first heard it,” Gania told New York Post. “Then some kids started noting it, too, so I was like, when we saw this [contest], I was like, ‘It’s Father’s Day. You have to go. It’s going to be your Father’s Day treat.’ It’s funny, because he’s not on social media at all. But now he’s going to be everywhere.”

The competition started with the Pedro impersonators making separate appearances on a podium in front of the restaurant, trying their hardest to wow the audience.

After the initial round, a panel of three judges reduced the number of possible Pedros to ten, who were further reduced to three.

Everyone began chanting for Pedro number five, George Gountas, as soon as the last three took the stage together, making a winner obvious.

Following his victory, Gountas told The Independent that he entered the competition on a whim after being told by his co-workers at “The Daily Show” that he resembled Pascal.

The lighting technician does not have any social media accounts despite working in the television industry stating, “I’ve been off of all social media for like seven years. I’ve been told I don’t exist, but now I guess I do because I’m the Pedro Pascal lookalike winner.”

Chef and Son Del North founder Annisha Garcia said that her brother asked her to produce a look-alike contest for the “The Last of Us” actor because of the popularity of the previous contests, notably the widely shared Timothée Chalamet contest in 2024.

Aside from the grand winner awarded with prizes, the second and third placers received gift cards, while the top ten finalists won free bean and cheese burritos.
