Social media users angrily expressed their dismay at the behavior that the public official exhibited.
Ewan ko bakit kelangan pa ganyanin, [Those are the barangay watchmen here in our area, and they’re just neighbors here. That elderly man just walks around in Rosario asking for alms because he has a wound on his foot. I don’t know why they have to treat him like that.]” one X user said.
Another social media user said, “Kung may mali man yung isang lalaki ay sana pagsabihan na lang o kaya if malaki talaga ay tumawag na lang ng brgy or pulis. [If the man did something wrong, they should’ve just told him off or if it’s really that big, they should’ve called the baranggay or the police. No need to get physical and keep on pointing and poking the man.]”
The viral video has already reached the local government of Brgy. Rosario and have issued a statement via a Facebook post.
Bilang tugon, bawat isang napatunayang nagkamali at lumabag sa panuntunan ay binigyan ng karampatang parusa alinsunod sa ating mga regulasyon, (we would like to notify that the heads of the Barangay do not tolerate any for of malpractice during work. Recently, there are employees that violated the rules and regulations of the barangay. With that, each person proved guilty will be sanctioned based on our regulations.)” the statement wrote.
The statement also reads that the official involved in the incident is now suspended for five days while the occurrence is still under investigation.
Social media users on Facebook were not happy with the five-day suspension for the public official and are demanding a heavier sanction.
If the barabgay captainis serious, fire the employee, this won’t cut it. He will not learn from suspension. Listento the people of Barangay Rosario.]” a Facebook commenter said.
[Suspension is not enough, he should be fired. Because his arrogance will prevail if he’s still working at the barangay. Working at the barangay should not be a pass to hurt people.]”
As of writing, the Brgy. Rosario LGU has not made any additional updates on the incident.
