Internet expresses disbelief over Julie Anne San Jose’s church performance, cites ‘questionable’ song choices and attire

A video of singer Julie Anne San Jose, who was seen performing inside a church, caught people’s attention online.

The singer performed at the Nuestra Señora Del Pilar Shrine in Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, on October 6, with songs including “Edge of Glory” by Lady Gaga and “Dancing Queen” by ABBA, to name a few.

The event was called the “Heavenly Harmony Concert (Harana para kay Maria),” where artists performed a number of songs.

Social media users have aired their criticism online upon seeing the video of Julie Anne, pointing out the concert being held at a church as well as the singer’s allegedly inappropriate clothing and setlist of songs.

Anong nangyari sa inyo, mga kapatid [We are in Zamboanga City Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar is also our Patron but we can never dare to do such a concert in our very churches. We also have events. But in our Fort Pilar Shrine and Churches only Mass is being held. Sincere and respectful in the House of God. What happened to you brothers and sisters]?”

Another user wrote, “Juskooo… Who initiated a concert like that? You let them sing Inappropriate Songs…. Sacrilege! The organizers should have an agreement WITH the artist on whatever song is suitable and can be sung especially if it is INSIDE the Church]…”

A third user wrote, “Sino nag organize ng event ‘nyo? O pinagisa nyo na lang [Who organized your event? If there are such performances, they should not be inside the parish, then the description is blurry, is it really a concert or a harana? Or you just made just one]?”

While the parish is facing backlash for the said move, it was clarified through their note on the poster that the proceeds from the concert would be used for the development of the church. Julie Anne has not yet issued a statement regarding the issue.
