According to a production list, the sequel for ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is set to begin filming on November 30th.
Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are said to return for the set. According to the Film and Television Industry Alliance, The Devil Wears Prada 2, classified as a “Feature Film,” is officially “In Development/Pre-Production.”
The story is said to continue with the struggle of Miranda who is at the end of her career as the print media declines, as well as she competes with her former assistant, Emily Chariton, who is now a high-powered executive.
In a report in April, Anne Hathaway made a comment of the unlikelihood of a sequel, citing the difference in technology then and the present.
The film is said to be directed by David Frankel, who directed the first film along with his other works Marley & Me, and the first and fourth episodes of the Netflix miniseries Inventing Anna.
The producer will be Wendy Finerman, who also produced the first film of ‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ and the film writer is the American screenwriter, Aline Brosh Mckenna, who was also in the credits of the first film, she also co-wrote the 2014 film Annie and the live-action remake of Cinderella.
While some are thrilled about the news, others question whether a sequel is truly necessary.
“The Devil Wears Prada” was a box office smash, earning $326.7 million worldwide and earning Meryl Streep a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy, as well as an Academy Award nomination. The designer Patricia Field was also nominated for an Oscar for the film’s costume.
