Love stories don’t always follow a traditional path, but sometimes, they prove that true love stands the test of time. A heartwarming tale from Kenya has captured the attention of many, as 95-year-old Ibrahim Mbogo and 90-year-old Tabitha Wangui finally tied the knot after six decades of knowing each other.
The couple exchanged vows on Sunday in a charming church ceremony held in Mukurweini, a small town located about three hours northeast of Nairobi. The event was covered by Citizen Digital, highlighting a love story that began in 1960.
“We met and fell in love in 1960, do you hear?” Mbogo shared with reporters outside the church, his voice filled with emotion and pride. Despite being legally married according to Kikuyu customs for many years, the couple wanted to have a church wedding to honor their Christian faith. “We discussed it and decided a white wedding would be wonderful,” he added, showing that their love is not just rooted in tradition but also in shared beliefs.
The ceremony was as beautiful as it was symbolic. Mbogo, the groom, looked dapper in a grey suit and silver tie, while Wangui, the radiant bride, wore a white hat paired with a cream brocade jacket over a white outfit.
When asked about the secret to their long-lasting relationship, Wangui offered a simple yet profound piece of advice, “Women, you must respect your husbands. If you do that, you will live as we have. Don’t do anything wrong, and when you do, just apologize and seek forgiveness,” she said, hinting at the humility and mutual respect that have kept their bond strong for over 60 years.
This couple’s story is a testament that love has no age limit and a reminder that sometimes the best things in life are worth waiting for. Their journey is an inspiration, showing us that true love is patient, enduring, and always worth celebrating.
