PLEDIS Entertainment debuts newest boy group, TWS

SEVENTEEN’s brother group, TWS, has finally made their debut!

Last December 2023, PLEDIS Entertainment announced that they would be debuting their newest boy group, TWS (pronounced as “to us”) in January 2024. TWS is PLEDIS Entertainment’s newest boy group after SEVENTEEN, who debuted in 2015.

TWS is a six-member boy group consisting of the members Shinyu, Dohoon, Youngjae, Hanjin, Jihoon, and Kyungmin. In their introduction by PLEDIS, the agency revealed that their group name stands for “Twenty Four Seven With Us” and that their group image is “bright and refreshing,” which pairs well with their music genre coined as “Boyhood Pop.”

According to PLEDIS, “Boyhood Pop” is a genre “belonging only to TWS” that expresses the “innocent and beautiful emotions of boyhood.”

In the weeks leading to the group’s debut, PLEDIS Entertainment released TWS’s pre-release single, “Oh Mymy: 7s” and its music video. The video featured the members of SEVENTEEN, producer BUMZU, HYBE’s founder Bang Si-hyuk, and PLEDIS Ent. CEO Han Sung-soo (who also led the production of their EP).

Then on January 22, 2024, TWS kicked off their career with their debut mini album, “Sparkling Blue,” and dropped the music video for the EP’s title track, “plot twist.” The song is described as a “hybrid pop track” that perfectly represents the nervousness and thrills of meeting people for the first time, in TWS’ own youthful color.

In their music video, the members of TWS are seen as students experiencing their “first day jitters” and enjoying every moment of it.

During the group’s first press showcase held on January 22, 2024 in Seoul, the members mentioned that their role models were their labelmates SEVENTEEN and that they were aiming to fill in the shoes as “SEVENTEEN’s brother group.”

“The title [SEVENTEEN’s brother group” actually incentivizes us to be even better on stage,” said member Shinyu. “It’s a positive type of pressure, the type of pressure that will drive us to grow even further.”

The fans that were eagerly waiting for TWS’ debut were blown away by how “perfect” their debut track sounded and had nothing else to say but praise for the rookie boy group.

K-pop columnist Jeff Benjamin also gave his own seal of approval for TWS’ debut track, saying that “this is the kind of song you can, indeed, play 24/7.”

Others also began saying that TWS were a combination of different K-Pop groups’ sounds and images—in a good way.

Congratulations on your successful debut, TWS! You truly are on the way to becoming “perfect idols.”
