Today, chart-topping singer/songwriter and Emmy-award-winning actress Dove Cameron released the new music video for her single “Sand” off of the first volume of her highly anticipated two part debut album, Alchemical: Volume 1 via Disruptor Records/Columbia Records. The music video provides a beautiful and cinematic visual to the haunting ballad which received critical acclaim upon release earlier this month. Watch it here.

The video opens on a desolate land ravaged by molten lava. Amidst the destruction Dove can be seen at a piano playing the song’s haunting first notes as she sings, “What’s worse: being wanted but not loved, or loved but not wanted?”
As the song grows Dove is joined by a dancer. Together they engage in a gorgeously choreographed sequence by famed choreographer Kyle Hanagami (Blackpink, aespa, TXT, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez and more) which is a slow-burning testament to unbalanced love and the quiet agony of emotional disparity. The music video for “Sand” captures the yearning for a connection that remains painfully out of reach. The poignant lyrics, which began as a poem Dove had written as a diary entry, coupled with the video pose profound questions about love and desire, echoing the sentiments of hearts that have loved fully but have not always received the same in return.
Upon the song’s initial release, Dove shared, “‘Sand’ is about a person who I loved very much, and who I thought I was going to spend my life with. It’s about the experience of having that seemingly perfect relationship end so suddenly and without warning, the feeling of shock and overnight disintegration of the future you built together, realizing no matter how much i gave of myself, I still had so little of him in the end, and the feeling of being unable to get back even the smallest pieces of myself that I had given away. I hope when you hear this song, it helps you learn to trust your instincts when you fall for someone, and hold out for the one where the more you give, the more they give. Don’t be afraid to lose the ones who can’t possibly see you, not because you aren’t incredible, but because they never could in the first place.”
About the album, Dove shares, “Alchemical: Volume 1 is a report from the void of my own personal experience with love, sex, loss, trauma, darkness, and eventually transformation and healing. I hope you hear yourself and we can meet in these moments in time together.”
“Sand” is the second song off her upcoming debut album. Last month, Dove released “Lethal Woman” as the first official track from Alchemical: Volume 1.
