Manila Pop Culture Con featuring ‘One Piece’ star Mackenyu stirs drama for ‘poor event management’

The recent Manila Pop Culture Convention was held last November 17 to 19 at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Pasay.

The convention seemingly generated backlash online as attendees spoke up about their not-so-good experience during the convention, particularly the meet & greet photo ops with “One Piece” star Mackenyu.

One social media user posted a photo op he had pre-pandemic and emphasized the importance of including guidelines so that those who availed can manage their expectations. He said there was unequal treatment as artists and vloggers got to meet Mackenyu up close while other attendees were not able to do so. He described it as like interacting with a standee and having social distancing.

He wrote, “Kung sakali mang may special conditions ang artist na kailangang sundin during the photo op sesh ay dapat nilagay niyo kaagad sa guidelines sa landing page sa pagbili ng tickets para ma set kaagad ang expectations ng fans ni Mackenyu ang mangyayari. [If there are special conditions from the artist that are needed to be followed during the photo op sesh then you should have immediately placed guidelines on the landing page in buying the tickets so the expectations of Mackenyu’s fans would already be set about what’s going to happen.]”

He continued his rant in the comments making the organizers aware of the said feedback and wrote, “My post is targeting the actual organizers to make them aware of the feedback from the fans who paid to get an unforgettable experience with their idol. Hindi yung puro sugarcoating at hype lang ang makukuha nila galing sa mga halik pwet na influencers [Not just getting sugarcoating and hype from these influencers]. Para din sa kanila ito para maiwasan nila at mas ma improve nila ang diskarte nila sa next event [This is also for them so that this would be avoided and that they can improve their strategy on the next event].”
