EXO’s Chen receives backlash from Korean fans after playing EXO’s fan song in his wedding

No, it wasn’t about the fact that the man was getting married this time.

On October 22, 2023, EXO’s Chen and his non-celebrity wife, Min-hee, renewed their vows and tied the knot in an intimate wedding attended by the EXO members. The wedding was held at the Lotte Signiel Hotel in Seoul, and the wedding pictures were absolutely beautiful and stunning.

In 2020, Chen announced that he was to be married and that his fiancé (now wife) was pregnant with their first child. The response to the news had been mixed, with half of the fans congratulating them and sending their best wishes, while the other half (a.k.a. some delulu K-fans) held a protest in front of SM Entertainment, calling for Chen’s removal from EXO.

Chen remained a member of EXO, and in 2022, he and his wife welcomed their second child. And now, the beautiful couple and their family have celebrated their wedding amongst loved ones.

All was well and good throughout the entire ceremony; however, one big factor from the wedding riled up some EXO fans. EXO’s “Don’t Go” was performed by a violin orchestra, which was considered their fan song for EXO-L’s, where EXO made a promise with EXO-L’s to always keep supporting each other.

The song was from EXO’s iconic first studio album, and because of its message, some EXO-Ls were emotional from the moment videos of it being played at the wedding were posted online.

Not everyone felt the same, however, some fans criticized Chen for using the song in his wedding, to which other social media users agreed.

One fan said, “’Peter Pan,’ ‘Angel,’ and ‘Don’t Go’ are exclusive fan songs. I’m appalled at the thought of having such a song performed at a wedding. It was an improper choice. Switching the song to ‘Miracles in December’ or something else would have led to less backlash.”

Another said, “I really don’t care who holds a wedding ceremony or whatever. But upon hearing ‘Don’t Go,’ it filled me with rage.”

Not that their input actually mattered, but oh well.

Congratulations to you and your beautiful family, Chen! EXO-Ls will always support you no matter where you go!
