‘Fast & Furious’ franchise set to have female-led spinoff

Just as film “Fast X” recently hit theaters, Vin Diesel, the lead actor of the Fast and Furious franchise, said in a report that spinoffs for the franchise are already being developed. This will include an installment led by a woman.

“I started developing the female spinoff…in 2017 with other spinoffs, and the sooner I deliver the finale, the sooner I can launch all the spinoffs,” he stated.

“Fast and Furious” films started in 2001 and have since made a mark as a franchise in the Hollywood scene. The newest film, “Fast X,” got the first spot at the box office this weekend. The film had a good opening weekend, with a global sale of $318 million. However, it was said that this fell short of other movies in the franchise in the past.

“Fast X” consists of a star-studded cast such as Jason Momoa, Michelle Rodriguez, John Cena, Brie Larson, Tyrese Gibson, and many more. This film primarily revolved around the story of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and the revenge of Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa) on him and his family.

The recent film also surprisingly featured famous actors Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot, who played the roles of Luke Hobbs and Gisele Yashar, making their return. Diesel admitted that it was not easy to hide every cameo. He said that he is excited to see the stars again.

Diesel added that he is more excited to see the fans’ reactions and how it makes people happy.

Rodriguez, who played the role of Letty Ortiz and has been part of the franchise for a long time, said that she is uncertain whether she will sign up for the spinoffs.

Rodriguez said that she would “pass the baton on” and take the back seat. “You go passenger side. When it comes to the next generation, you have to. It’s the only way to let them define the future,” Rodriguez added, according to the report.

The series was said to conclude with a two-movie finale. Diesel said earlier in the month that “Fast X” would be the beginning of a trilogy, according to a report.
