Ex-LOONA member CHUU scores another legal victory against former agency

Well, it appears that Chuu, a former member of K-pop girl group LOONA, has scored another win in her ongoing legal battle against her former agency, Blockberry Creative. The governing body Corea Entertainment Management Association (CEMA) recently ruled that there wasn’t enough evidence to accuse BY4M Studio of tampering or having an illegal contract, effectively thwarting Blockberry’s attempt to ban Chuu from performing once again.

But wait, how did this even start?

The controversy started in December 2021 when Blockberry Creative submitted a petition to CEMA and Korea Entertainment Producers’ Association (KEPA) seeking a ban on Chuu’s entertainment activities. The agency alleged that Chuu had engaged in advance contact (tampering) with BY4M Studio, when her exclusive contract with Blockberry had not yet expired. Blockberry claimed that BY4M attempted to sign Chuu to a contract, and that Chuu had violated the terms of her agreement with Blockberry by communicating with the studio before her contract had officially ended.

However, it’s important to note that CEMA didn’t exactly make a final ruling on the matter. They just punted it back to the legal system, which means the saga continues.

Meanwhile, Blockberry officials are putting on a brave face and saying they respect CEMA’s decision, but behind the scenes, they’re probably feeling pretty salty about the whole thing.

The ongoing dispute between Chuu and Blockberry is just one of several ongoing legal battles involving LOONA and their management. There are also disputes over the contracts and activities of other members, as well as a separate issue involving Universal Music Japan’s contract with the group. Despite the challenges, the members have continued to work hard and pursue their careers, with several members signing with MODHAUS for their re-debut.

All in all, the K-pop world is full of twists and turns, and the battle between Chuu and Blockberry is far from over. Only time will tell how these various disputes will be resolved and how they will impact the future of the group.
