Following various film competitions both local and international, Far Eastern University (FEU) Communication students under the Convergent Media Track launched Tamaraw Cine-Summit (TCS) last March 31, 2023, at NRH 106- 108, FEU Manila. TCS is the perfect event for aspiring filmmakers, film students, and anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of the art of cinema.
The event were divided into three: Narrative, Documentary, and Experimental which will all feature keynote lectures from award-winning and highly acclaimed filmmakers.
Portrayal through lens
JC Gellidon (Ten Little Mistresses, 2023) discussed about storytelling through visual cinematography — how to effectively tell different kinds of narratives while utilizing different approaches in camera works and placements.
Capturing real-life narratives
Victor Tagaro (Yield, 2018) and Venice Atienza (Last Days at Sea, 2021) taught cinematography filming methods and tips on capturing significant real-life happenings on the subject matter or specific events, unmediated by scripts.
Beyond rules, beyond norms
Timmy Harn (Dog Days, 2018) and Furan Guillermo (Sa Gabing Tanging Liwanag ay Paniniwala, 2019) tackled how cinematography can be utilized to tell stories in non-traditional forms and explore distinctive cinematography styles that further enrich creativity.
More than listening to speakers’ film expertise, participants also had the opportunity to apply their learnings on the spot by creating a short project based on their chosen category.
Whether you’re new to filmmaking or currently a filmmaker, TCS offers you an inside look at the vast world of Philippine cinema.
The participants’ 5-shot films will be available for streaming starting Monday, April 10, via FEU Studios and FEU’s Department of Communication Facebook pages.
