The famous manga series ‘One Piece’ will have its live-action adaptation which will air later this year.
On January 30, Netflix tweeted the announcement and released the official posters and promotional visuals of ‘One Piece’, a live-action series developed by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda. This is based on the ongoing Japanese pirate manga and anime created by Eiichiro Oda– the executive producer of the said live-action.
The first teaser image shows the silhouette of Monkey D. Luffy, played by Mexican Actor Iñigo Godoy, wearing the lead character’s iconic straw hat and red vest. He is seen facing the sunset with his fist raised toward the sky.

The second image, on the other hand, displays the five protagonists of the series: Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
The storyline for the live-action series will focus solely on East Blue, the setting of the first six arcs of both the manga and anime.
‘One Piece’ follows the story of Luffy, a teenager with an ultimate dream: To uncover the legendary ‘One Piece’ treasure and become the King of Pirates. To reach his goal, Luffy, together with his group of friends, sails the dangerous seas of the Grand Line to look for Laugh Tale, the isolated island where one piece is located. Along his voyage, Luffy and his crew encounter their fellow pirates, who want to dominate the seas, and the Navy, who want to destroy the pirate menace.
The manga was first published in 1997 in Weekly Shonen Jump’s magazine and got an anime adaptation that started airing in 1999. One Piece is the only manga and anime that still has ongoing weekly chapters and anime episodes. It is also considered a part of Shonen’s Jump’s “Big Three” alongside Bleach and Naruto.
The daunting pirate manga-anime series has been running for 24 years with over a thousand episodes. The release date of its upcoming live adaptation has not been confirmed yet.
