Is ‘Final Destination 6’ officially in the works? If yes, then here we go again–soon to be traumatized by seemingly ordinary things

Death is indeed like a boomerang because it keeps coming back. Soon enough, it’s going to knock on our doors and movie screens in the form of Final Destination 6.

The Final Destination film series has been one of the notable horror franchises. The first film, which was released in 2000, had set up the whole canon for the franchise: one character has a premonition where they are supposed to die, they would eventually die, only for Death to come for them one by one. With its inventive death scenes, the franchise has changed the horror genre forever and left an impressive mark in pop culture.

Now, eleven years after a Final Destination film graced our theaters, the sixth installment of the Final Destination franchise is officially in development.

This news was first announced in 2019 and was confirmed by series creator Jeffrey Reddick in 2020. Plot details are still under lock and key, but according to series producer Craig Perry, they planned to shift the focus to the world of first responders.

Speaking with MovieWeb in a 2020 interview, Perry said: “These people deal with death on the front lines every day and make choices that can cause people to live or die. We rely on their good judgment, expertise, and calm demeanor.”

“So why not put those people in the nightmare situation where every choice can bring about life and death—but now for themselves?” he added.

In addition, Reddick also revealed that the sixth film will stray away from the original formula of the franchise.

“I will say that it’s not just going to be another kind of ‘we set up a group of people, they cheat death, and then just death gets them,’” Reddick told Dread Central in an earlier interview. “And there’s one wrinkle that we kind of added to every movie to kind of like change it up a little bit. This one is a true Final Destination movie, but it doesn’t follow that kind of formula that we’ve kind of established. I think I can say that much.”

Now, that’s a really interesting twist!

While there is no additional news reported about the film’s premise, a fan-made poster for Final Destination 6 has resurfaced on the internet. The poster sees a cruise ship sailing in the middle of an ocean with a skull made out of what seems to be smoke seeping into the air. A line that says, “The ride isn’t over yet,” can also be seen in the poster.

Although this still isn’t official yet, the poster has elicited excitement from the fans. Some also mentioned how now, being aboard a cruise ship would traumatize them just as how roller coasters and log trucks did after watching the previous installments of the movie.

Whether it’s a cruise ship incident or not, we can guarantee that we would still be traumatized after watching the movie. I mean, hello? Have you seen the previous films? We couldn’t think of highways, planes, log trucks, roller coasters, racing cars, and bridges the same way ever again.

Final Destination 6 will be helmed by Freaks and Kim Possible directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, with Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor penning the script. Spider-Man trilogy director Jon Watts will serve as the film producer alongside Atlanta’s Dianne McGunigle.

As of this writing, Final Destination 6’s official cast members and release date are yet to be announced.
