Have you ever stared off into the distance, with a heavy sigh and back pain (just like me, the writer), wondering how hard adulthood is? You know, just wishing you could go back to your childhood days, where you only had to worry about going out to play street games?
Well, if you’re like us who miss those childhood days, be prepared to feel nostalgic as there is a PC game that lets you play your favorite Filipino street games—introducing One Last Game.
One Last Game is a PC game developed by Paulo Arnante, a BS Digital Illustration and Animation student at Ateneo de Naga University. This 2D game follows the journey of a young boy named Danny who’s about to move to a new place. Danny’s ultimate goals for his last day in his neighborhood called the “hub world,” are to “settle some scores, say goodbyes, and have fun.”
The game also features some Filipino traditional childhood games, such as Sipa, Tumbang Preso, and Dodgeball.
In a post by Ateneo Animations, Arnante shared that the 2D pixel art world is inspired by the role-playing games he played before, such as The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap and Mother 3.
“The games [featured in One Last Game] are inspired by the traditional Filipino games that I may not have played during my childhood years, but learned from school, and saw in different forms of media,” Arnante said.
He added: “By speaking with specific non-player characters (NPCs), you can play the games and afterward, return to the hub world. The player’s goal is to win every game available.”
One Last Game has received positive reactions from some users who tried playing the game.
