Angela Bassett claims ‘Black Panther’ sequel will outdo the first film

MCU has already started the next big phase in its storyline, and yet there are more puzzles pieces to fit for each Avengers character. Black Panther is set to make make a comeback soon with actress Angela Bassett teasing that the sequel will outdo the first film.

In an episode of the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Angela Bassett, who portrays MCU’s Queen Ramonda of Wakanda, briefly teased what to expect from the highly anticipated Black Panther sequel. When Degeneres asked Bassett for more details on the film, the actress initially said, “Not one single thing.”

“It’s going to be amazing,” Bassett said. “It’s going to top [the first] one.” The actress then playfully looked around and joked, “Marvel can I say that?”

The actress also commended writer and director Ryan Coogler, calling him “the perfect leader.” Coogler will return to direct Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is expected to premiere on November 11 this year. Bassett didn’t share any more details in the film as the entire cast and Marvel have been very tight-lipped about sharing the plot and any other details of the sequel.

In the interview, she was asked about returning to film the sequel without the late Chadwick Boseman, to which she replied, “He was such an example, such a leader, an amazing talent – we all know that.”

“Big heart, great intellect and we just hope to raise his standard,” Bassett said about the actor. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that the studio won’t be recasting T’Challa, which means that the sequel will be addressing a plot point about the character’s fate.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will feature the returning cast led by Letita Wright as Shuri, Danai Gurira’s Okoye, Winston Duke’s M’Baku, and Angela Bassett’s Ramonda. These characters are envisioned to have prominent roles in the sequel. Daniel Kaluuya, Lupita Nyong’o, and Florence Kasumba are also reprising their roles in the upcoming sequel.

The late actor Chadwick Boseman portrayed the Black Panther back in 2018 for the first installment of the character’s films. Black Panther became a global box office success, having made $1.3 billion according to Box Office Mojo. Boseman went on to reprise the role in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Unfortunately, the actor died of cancer in August 2020, at the age of 43. While the Black Panther will not be recast following the actor’s passing, Boseman will surely be remembered for his notable role.
