Paul Sun-Hyung Lee has shared the details for the first season of the upcoming live-action series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The actor revealed the series’ episode count and length.
In an interview on the Handsome Genius Club Radio Show podcast, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee revealed that the first season of the live-action adaptation the Avatar series consists of eight episodes, contradicting previous reports that the show’s first season would have a total of 10 episodes.
Each episode will run for 60 minutes with a total of 480 minutes on eight episodes for the first season. The first live-action of M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender was released in 2010 but was met with heavy criticism on the film’s adaptation of the animated series. Twelve years later, Aang’s story is being retold once again in a brand new way.
Lee will be portraying the role of Uncle Iroh, who is one of the prominent characters of Avatar: The Last Airbender that fans have come to love in the series.
The animated version of the series was aired in Nickelodeon for 61 episodes from 2005 to 2008. Avatar has long maintained a strong fanbase and the animated series later released a sequel series titled The Legend of Korra.
In an update by Avatar News, the series is already in its fourth month of filming in Vancouver. It is expected that the production would reach six months, which could possibly mean that the cast and crew have already passed the halfway mark for production.
In addition to Lee’s role as Iroh, cast for the live-adaptation series stars Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio Tarbell as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dallas Liu as Zuko, Elizabeth Yu as Azula, Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai, Maria Zhang as Suki, Ken Leung as Commander Zhao, Lim Kay Siu as Gyatso, Yvonne Chapman as Avatar Kyoshi, Tamlyn Tomita as Yukari and Casey Camp-Horinek as Gran Gran.
It is said that the first season will be featuring characters Mai and Ty Lee but there hasn’t been any update on the casting information.
