Last February 28, an elderly woman was about to pay for her groceries when her credit card was declined multiple times by the cashier at the Central Coast Shopping Centre in Wyoming, Australia.

When Ryan O’ Donnell, 34, saw this elderly woman’s struggle to pay, he insisted on paying the $44 grocery bill instead.

Normally, a selfless act like this would go unnoticed; but when Luke, an onlooker, saw O’ Donnell’s good deed, he promptly documented it on Twitter.

Soon after Luke’s upload, the internet went crazy with replies of praise and admiration for the father of two.

Although most of the comments were positive, there were some, who shared a different opinion on the matter. Two Twitter users in particular, suggested that the woman was simply scamming O’ Donnell for free groceries.

While another Twitter user, by the name of Sam Steward said that he wasn’t particularly impressed with O’ Donnell’s gesture.

Despite these not-so-nice comments, O’ Donnell says he is still proud of what he did and he even credits this gesture to his parents’ upbringing. “That’s how my mum and dad brought me up,” he explains on the Today Show.

Whatever your opinion may be, one thing’s for sure: O’ Donnell definitely sets the bar on how everyone should treat their elders!
