Jenner and Minogue clash over ownership of ‘Kylie’ trademark

There can only be one Kylie in this world. Who’s it gonna be?

Last April 2015, reality TV star Kylie Jenner applied for the trademark of her first name with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office to protect her name in relation to advertising, entertainment and personal appearances “by a celebrity, actress, and model.”

Aside from that, Jenner already used the “Kylie” brand name for the lip kits and cosmetics she released last year and plans to continue using it for future endeavors in fashion and beauty.

However, she was recently denied after Australian pop artist Kylie Minogue blocked her application, arguing that this will create confusion with her fans as she already owns trademark registrations for her full name, “Kylie Minogue”, and kylie.com which she has owned since 1996.

Minogue also owns the “Kylie” trademark in perfumes and toiletries, music and sound recordings, live entertainment, jewellery, dolls and toys, and printed matter such as magazines and books. Arguably, Minogue has been known as “Kylie” since 1980s and according to her team, is an “internationally renowned performing artist, humanitarian, and breast cancer activist”.

We bet, Minogue was like:

Sorry, girl! I was born first!

Jenner though wouldn’t give up right away. She has already put forth her appeal and would probably say:

Kylie, Kylie Jenner, Kylie Minogue, trademark

Now that’s fierce!

Who’s the legit “Kylie” for you?
