2017 CNY 5x24

Megaworld Lifestyle Malls and the City Government of Manila are once again teaming up in staging the grandest, brightest and most spectacular Chinese New Year celebration in Binondo, the world’s oldest and the country’s pre-eminent Chinatown.

From delicious Chinese food to attractions that bring luck and good fortune to star-studded performances and world-class cultural spectacles, revelers are sure to get all fired up and expect nothing but a spectacular celebration to welcome the Year of the Fire Rooster.

At the center of it all is Lucky Chinatown, Binondo’s premier lifestyle destination where the occasion is marked with a two-week long festivity that runs until January 29.

“As we have been doing in the past years, we want to give our Chinese-Filipino friends a grand celebration. Through an exciting lineup of activities, promos and even a sale, we want everyone to get all fired up and welcome the Year of the Rooster in high spirits and hopefully inspire them to work hard to reach their goals this 2017,” said Megaworld Senior Vice President and Head of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls Kevin L. Tan.

The festivities start with the Chinese New Year Prosperity Fair, where guest can explore a host of good luck charms and accessories and buy authentic Chinese products and delicacies from January 16 to 31.

For more authentic and delightful Chinese cuisine, foodies can visit the Chinese New Year Food Fair located at Meisic Street from January 23 – 29. And to those looking to attract luck while satisfying their tummies, they can dig in into Lucky Chinatown’s 8 Lucky Foods, available at participating restaurants.

Great deals and freebies also abound Lucky Chinatown’s Lucky Sale, with shoppers getting all the luck with up to 70% discount at their favorite stores and even restaurants, and service shops from January 27 – 31.

And those looking for more luck, they can drop by the Lucky Chinatown Walk and take part in the 8 Lucky Rituals, designed to give everyone good fortune this coming Year of the Rooster.

The celebration kicks up a notch on January 27 at the grand Chinese New Year Countdown. From 2pm until the early hours of January 28, guests can join the Binondo community in welcoming the Year of the Rooster and enjoy colorful cultural performances from 2PM to 6PM at the Lucky Chinatown Atrium. In the evening, guests are in for a great night of music with live performances from December Ave., The Cheats and Up Dharma Down.

Over at the Lucky Chinatown Walk, Feng Shui Master Johnson Chua will share his predictions for the Year of the Rooster, followed by a special live performance from OPM legend Ely Buendia. A few minutes before midnight, a spectacular LED-powered Lion and Dragon Dance will greet guests, followed by the Lighting of the First Incense and a grand fireworks display.

The celebration continues on Chinese New Year’s Day with more cultural performances from 2pm onwards including a theatrical play called The Legend of the Rooster. Feng Shui master Johnson Chua returns with more astrological forecast followed by performances by Ransom Collective and former Urbandub front man Gab Alipe.

More cultural performances await guests on January 29 from 2PM onwards, with Johnson Chua returning to the stage to share more of his forecast for 2017.
