Pinoys sometimes complain about the sappy and recycled stories and concepts in movies being shown in cinemas these days. Well if you want something new, Cinemalaya is here for you!

This year’s Cinemalaya is back at it with another witty promotional video featuring Edu Manzano and comedian Jun Sabayton for the 12th year of the annual film festival. The promotional video posted by Ad agency Leo Burnett Manila is making a buzz on social media for its hilarious attack on “fantaserye” genre in Filipino movies.

In the video, Edu Manzano plays as lead action hero in a fantasy movie – fighting the villains using his sword to save the leading lady like the same old cliché plot in Pinoy fantasy films. A troll / Viking-looking guy played by Jun Sabayton then started complaining how he’s so sick and tired of their pointless and recycled plots and pokes fun at notable fantaserye characters before walking out of the scene in just his underwear.

“Kahit gaano karaming kalaban ang ipangtapat sa’yo, sigurado ako mag-go-glow na naman ‘yang espada mo!”

Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival with this year’s theme: “Break The Surface”, offers quality Pinoy films featuring 9 full-length entries for the Main Competition category, short films, with a special section dubbed as “Indie Nation” which showcases various awesome and must-watch independent films.

Cinemalaya runs from August 5 to 14 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), Greenbelt 1, Trinoma, Fairview Terraces, UP Town Center, Glorietta, Solenad, Nuvali (Laguna), and Ayala Center Cebu.
