Fresh from their two-year hiatus, Lifehouse returns to Manila for the third time to pick up where they left off with their adoring fans.
“Our memories in the Philippines have always been amazing, ‘cause it is maybe the one place in the world where we can play album tracks that are not commercial singles, per se. People actually relate to it. We can all be in the same gigantic arena with a song that is not a commercial single,” said Jason Wade, the band’s vocalist, in an interview at the Nobu Hotel last October 6.
Bryce Soderberg, the band’s bassist, believed that their hiatus served them well and that their return is a “…creative kind of rebirth.”
“Each one had something creative to bring to the table when we got back together for this record. So yeah, it’s been a really healthy time for us to just settle back and take a break and explore things individually. After 15 years of touring and making music, it got a little monotonous. It was a really healthy break for all of us, and we’re glad to be back!”
Aside from a new set of songs, they also introduced their new guitarist, Steve Stout.
“To be with a band that has been around for so long, that makes me really excited because you get to be a part of all this history,” Steve said.
With their refreshing new sound, we couldn’t help but ask them how they feel about their old records being compared to the new ones, to which Jason answered, “I think it’s great. I think we took some risks in our last couple of albums and to be able to kind of be comfortable in our own skin to come up with something that sounds like the earlier Lifehouse is kind of refreshing to us. But we always want to keep on pushing the boundaries and make records that are different from the last one.”
Being that their songs have reached a certain level of timelessness in the music industry, we wanted to know what else they want to achieve with their music. The band agreed that timelessness is the “…end-all be-all of music.”
“I think it’s great to be considered timeless. We never want to make music that is a big hit one year and then cheesy the next. So I guess we’ll just keep doing that!” said Jason.
The band was catapulted to stardom through their hit singles, “Hanging by a Moment” and “You and Me.” Throughout the years, a string of hits and an army of fans followed.
One can’t help but be excited to once again see Lifehouse in action, this time on a bigger stage at Mall of Asia Arena on the 8th of October, 2015. Don’t miss it!
