SAD, not literally, but Singles Awareness Day

Do you still see red roses and chocolates wrapped as a gift in different shops? How about those flowers and teddy bears displayed in malls? You are right, the world is still having its hangover for Valentine’s Day.

But for those who are unaware, February 15, the day after Valentine’s Day, is called the Singles Awareness Day or the Singles Appreciation Day (SAD). This is a great opportunity to recognize different forms of love such as the love between family and friends, as well as love for oneself.

Just a heads-up, this is not a day for you to be lonely because there are multiple ways to celebrate this lovely day.

Ask your friends out on a date! You all have been swamped up because of your busy and conflicting schedules and mostly all of your plans with your squad have been canceled. But there is no better way to have some fun, eat out, and talk about the good old days than February 15. Actually, even on other days. Set that date and catch up with them. You can simply watch that movie that you have been planning all along, go shopping, and ask your friends for advice regarding the right dress to wear in a meeting or drink coffee while reminiscing the days when there is no need to wear masks.

Give yourself a gift. I know it has been a while since you bought a new pair of shoes or dress, and if you are looking for a sign to purchase that item, this is it. You have worked and studied so hard, and now, you deserve a reward. This is also something that you can look forward to for yourself. Aside from buying items, pampering yourself is another form of a gift. I always find going to the spa so relaxing, you might want to give it a try because after all, there is no greater present than being able to enjoy and take a well-deserved rest at the same time.

Travel wherever you want. Given the restrictions brought by the pandemic, I know it might be a little difficult compared to before. But if you are into adventures, going out of town must be nice. You can hike, swim or just witness the sunset and sunrise while setting aside all the duties at work or school. You deserve that vacation! It has been years since you last went out. Just remember to follow the guidelines and health protocols set by the national and local governments.

Learn a new hobby. No one is late for discovering new things and if you have something on your bucket list, try doing that today. Who knows, you can cross that out in your list before this day ends. May it be doing sketches, crochets, or learning how to play chess, give it a try! It can be difficult or unconventional for you, but that could later add up to the things you can do which is a win-win situation.

Be with your family. If you do not have plans with anyone nor you do not want to go out either, you can just stay in your house with your family. Cook some food for them and enjoy a lovely dinner. After all, if you do not have a date, your parents might have, throw them a surprise. Recommend them a movie to watch, prepare the necessary things needed for their day. It is time to repay them just by making an ordinary day extra special for them.

No one deserves to be lonely this love month. Remember that love can be expressed in so many ways and be the one to spread it.
