‘Girls Planet 999’ Girl Group Project Kep1er debuts with track ‘WA DA DA’

Kep 1 going wa da da da~

2 months after the finale of South Korean reality competition show ‘Girls Planet 999’, the top 9 finalists have finally made their debut as “Kep1er” with their first mini album “First Impact” and its title track “WA DA DA”.

Kep1er consists of 9 members coming from South Korea, Japan, and China (in order of their ranking in GP999): Kim Chaehuyn, Huening Bahiyyih, Choi Yujin, Kim Dayeon, Seo Youngeun, Kang Yeseo, Hikaru Ezaki, Mashiro Sakamoto, and Shen Xiaoting.

“WA DA DA”, as described by Soompi, “is a dance track expressing Kep1er’s energetic and lovely charms. The song conveys the girl group’s ambitions to achieve their dreams and repay their fans’ love”. True enough, the bright and “girl crush” type of concept fits the girls perfectly, especially paired with their vibrant visuals and lively choreography.

Their debut mini album, “First Impact”, also includes the girl group’s versions of songs from ‘Girls Planet 999’ like ‘Shine’, ‘O.O.O.’, and ‘Another Dream’.

The girl group’s debut date was supposedly on December 14, 2021, but was delayed to January 3, 2022 due to one of their staff members testing positive for COVID-19. This also cancelled Kep1er’s debut stage performance at the 2021 MAMA. A week later, members Mashiro and Xiaoting also tested positive with the virus, while the other members tested negative.

Fans of Kep1er excitedly shared their thoughts and feelings about the girl group’s debut all over social media. They all sent their congratulations and love for the girl group on Twitter, most especially.
