Trophy Eyes share vulnerable new track ‘Bittersweet’

Trophy Eyes have released their second and final single of 2021 “Bittersweet”, a look into what is to come for the band and their next album.

Lead singer and songwriter, John Floreani, shares of the release: “There are no rules in love. I know this now but for my teenage self, that was too much to comprehend. Bittersweet is a song about feeling someone slowly slip away, and the cathartic, long winded conversations said in total silence- sometimes with just a single expression. It was my first experience of inadequacy and total loss of control. I was not enough and I drove the person that I loved into someone’s more capable arms.

I’m not sure that I was even in love, but I was certainly desperate to hold on to the one thing still linking me to my childhood. My first taste of adult life was a bitter introduction to how familiar I would come to be with loneliness.”

Trophy Eyes have spent the last 2 years in lockdown creating and crafting their most experimental music to date. Blending new wave rock with their punk and hard-core roots, combined with modern rock and pop sensibilities, their newest single is a testament to their constant evolution as songwriters. “Bittersweet” is a look towards the future of Trophy Eyes and the music that is to come in 2022.

“Bittersweet” follows Trophy Eyes’ previous single “27 Club”, their first release in nearly 2 years. The song was featured on publications such as NME, Wall Of Sound and Amplify. Along with this release, the band were featured on the cover of Spotify’s “Rock Out” playlist.

The band’s 2018’s groundbreaking album, ‘The American Dream’, which debuted at #8 in Australia, as well as further cementing Trophy Eyes’ popularity in South East Asia, with Singapore and Indonesia in their Top 5 countries based on streams worldwide. The album enjoyed huge success at triple J – achieving Featured Album, as well as lead single “You Can Count On Me” breaking into triple J’s Hottest 100.
