Today, LØLØ can also be seen on a billboard in Times Square celebrating her selection into the October class of featured artists in Spotify’s EQUAL program. EQUAL is an initiative that supports and highlights emerging female artists, aiming to foster equity for women in audio.
On “u look stupid”, LØLØ blithely delivers her ex a piece of her mind over a pummelling grunge guitar. In case you missed it: girls rule, boys drool. “It’s about standing up for yourself and letting people know you can’t be f*cked with,” LØLØ says about the track. “Let ‘u look stupid’ be a reminder: don’t let the stupid people getcha down.”
The accompanying music video pictures LØLØ having a witchy red room party with a few skeleton friends. “My director Justin and I bought some skeletons off of Amazon and dressed them up to look stupid and outrageous and we had lots of fun with it,” LØLØ shares.
Born and raised in Toronto, LØLØ has become an undeniable presence in the city’s scene. The singer-songwriter has created a striking presence both online and on stage with her effortlessly cool attitude and sharp lyricism.
In 2020, LØLØ created a buzz on TikTok where she started reimagining some of music’s biggest hits. Putting her adept lyrical skills to use, she rewrites verses from the opposite perspective of the song’s subject, while still maintaining the original integrity of each song’s tempo and rhyme scheme. Most notably, her take on Taylor Swift’s “Betty” from “Betty’s perspective” caught the attention of Swifties and went viral on the platform, racking up over half a million views.
Billboard has compared her to pop punk legends Avril Lavigne and Paramore. Additionally, LØLØ’s received critical acclaim from American Songwriter, Ones to Watch, Alternative Press, and more.
