My experience with the BGC Online Theater Workshop

The following #POPCreators entry was submitted by Iñigo Jose A. Carlos. Submissions under POP! Creator Community appear “as is,” without any editorial intervention.

Here’s his piece titled, “My experience with the BGC Online Theater Workshop”:

I just recently finished my second time at the BGC Online Theater Workshop, and I would like to share my thoughts on the experience. The BGC Online Theater Workshop allows kids to continue honing their skills in acting and singing even while they are at home. The most challenging thing about doing musical theater online is that some things that are possible offline, can’t be done online. Many factors such as audio delays, internet connections, equipment, and home situations could affect the class. Despite these challenges, the classes barely had any issues and were handled well. I chose to join these classes so I can improve my singing and voice acting skills and to also meet new people. It was a very fun experience and it made my summer so much better.

The classes wouldn’t have been the way they were if it wasn’t for our amazing teacher, Sir. Rony Fortich. He was a very friendly and welcoming teacher who would push us to do our best. His style of teaching allowed the class to be more active and entertaining, since we didn’t just practice our singing and we also had plenty of activities that encouraged us to move and act. He taught us to not just sing but to also add personality and character to our songs. During our one-on-one sessions he was able to give good advice and tell me what I needed to improve upon in my performance. I liked his friendly and positive attitude and his emphasis on adding personality to our performances. Another thing I appreciate is that we were given time to interact and get to know the other students.

The lessons we learn during our class is to prepare us for our recital, where we sing the song which we chose and were assigned to.  There are two one-on-one sessions to help us practice our songs. Finishing the recital is a fulfilling experience, knowing that you are able to showcase your talent to so many people. Overall, I hope to return for next year’s workshop and I hope that other kids would be interested in joining as well.
