Blue’s Clues, one of our generation’s favorite children’s show turned 25 years old today!
To celebrate this momentous occasion for Nick Jr.’s critically acclaimed children’s educational show, they brought back the original host Steve Burns to talk about one of the show’s biggest mysteries of all: why Steve left.
In a Tweet captioned, “So about that time Steve went off to college…”, Steve apologized to fans in a 2-minute video for leaving the show after hosting over 100 episodes. He then revealed the reason for his sudden departure from Blue Clues back in 2022 by saying, “I just kind of got up and went to college,” confessing that his leaving the show was a bit too abrupt.
Steve also shared his feelings about his experiences after leaving the show, saying that it “was really challenging…but great because I got to use my mind and take a step at a time and now I literally am doing many of the things that I wanted to do.”
He also addressed the fans who grew up with the show, giving a heartwarming and tear-jerking applause to the ones who have helped him before. “…And then look at you – and look at all you have done, and all you have accomplished in all that time…It’s just so amazing, right?”
Steve assured the fans (who are now adults and going through life) that even though it’s been hard, he couldn’t have done everything without their help and that he never forgot about them, not one bit.
“And in fact, all the help that you helped me with when we were younger is still helping me today right now…After all these years, I never forgot you ever, and I’m super glad we’re still friends.”
Steve’s feel-good and comforting video just brought an entire generation to tears. Fans of the show all shared their sentiments all over social media, immediately bringing up the topic ‘Steve 🥺’ and the hashtag #BluesClues25 to the top of Twitter’s trending list.

Steve 🥺
That time, I was devastated to see him go. And when I got older I realized why and I appreciated his decision. This really made my day. Blue’s Clues was a huge part of my childhood and I am glad it continues to be educational and wonderful. #BluesClues25 https://t.co/dsmIYzUwYs
