Ed Sheeran and Rui Ikeda team up for anime-themed music video

Ed Sheeran recently dropped a new music video for his latest single “Bad Habits.” The single was released on June 25 along with a live-action music video wherein Sheeran roams the city streets at night with vampire fangs, spooky eye makeup, and a pink suit.

This time, Sheeran has teamed up with manga artist Rui Ikeda for an anime-themed music video for the same single. Naomi Izumida directed the animated music video, while CALF handled the features animation production. Set in Tokyo, the anime-inspired music video tells the tragic love story of a human woman and a vampire man.

The music video was uploaded on Warner Music Japan’s official YouTube channel.

Ed Sheeran is not the first artist to have animated characters in music videos this year. For Pokemon’s 25th anniversary, Katy Perry helped celebrate by having Pikachu as her guest star in the music video for her song “Electric.”

Ariana Grande has also recently done a collab with Epic Games for a series of live animated concerts for the video game Fortnite. Called the Rift Tour, the concerts consisted of five shows and were held from August 6 to August 8.

“Bad Habits” is the first single from Ed Sheeran’s upcoming fifth album. It is also the second song that Sheeran has released since his album No. 6 Collaborations Project in 2019, which he dropped shortly before going on hiatus. The first song that the singer released since coming back from hiatus was “Afterglow” in December 2020.
