Lil Nas X drops ‘Industry Baby’ teaser with sketch of Satan shoes issue

Lil Nas X recently dropped a 2-minute teaser on YouTube for his upcoming song “Industry Baby,” titled “Nike v. Lil Nas X — Satan Shoes Trial”, and the video includes a spoof of the legal dispute over the 22-year-old rapper’s Satan shoes, which was already settled back in April.

In the teaser, Lil Nas X is on trial in a courtroom and he plays as the defendant, the prosecuting attorney, the defending attorney, and the judge. The prosecuting attorney says that this trial isn’t really about the shoes, rather it’s about the rapper’s sexuality.

The prosecuting attorney directly asks the defendant Lil Nas X if he’s gay, and if his mother knows he’s gay, and the rapper says yes to both. A member of the jury (also played by Lil Nas X) comments, “Lock him up, throw away the key.” The judge sentences Lil Nas X to five years in “Montero State Prison”, then a snippet of “Industry Baby” starts playing.

The full song will be released on Friday, July 23. “Industry Baby” will most likely be part of Lil Nas X’s upcoming debut album, Montero, but the rapper has yet to announce an official release date or the full tracklist. “Industry Baby” will also feature Jack Harlow, and the song was produced by Take a Daytrip and Kanye West.

Before the teaser video was released, Lil Nas X had been posting TikTok videos and tweets saying that he would be “in court” on Monday because of the Nike lawsuit. One of his TikTok videos says, “when you have court on Monday over satan shoes and might go to jail, but your label tells you to keep making TikToks” and the rapper dances while crying to what turned out to be a snippet of “Industry Baby.”

The rapper’s campaign for the teaser garnered plenty of attention, to the point where the hashtag #FreeLilNasX started trending on Twitter on Monday morning, shortly before he announced his new single. Plenty of fans used the hashtag to support the rapper on his fake court hearing, while some even wished him luck for the “trial.”
