The 22nd Isabela Sociocultural Awareness Week (ISAW) invites elementary and secondary schools in Isabela to join its online activities on February 21-23 for chances to bring home cash prizes and to represent the province in the national competitions.
ISAW is the primary event of the University of the Philippines Kalipunan ng mga Anak ng Isabela (UP KAISA) in promoting social and cultural consciousness among the Isabeleño youth. It serves as a platform for discussions and exchanges of ideas on contemporary issues that concern the youth, the province of Isabela, and the country.
For the first time, the event will be done via Facebook, Zoom, and Discord. It is guided by the theme “Emphasizing the Role of Media and the Youth in the Pursuit of Research-Based Progress and Truth”, aiming to highlight the significance of the media and the scientific community in shaping the public’s perception and in formulating effective laws and policies beneficial for the country.
Aside from the annual contests Quiz Show, Debate Competition, Essay Writing, Pagsulat ng Sanaysay, Traditional Poster Making, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Short Film Making, this year’s ISAW features Dagliang Talumpati, Digital Poster Making, and Photography Contest. The contests will select the students who will qualify for the national level, the Patalasanlahi, in March.
ISAW also offers a series of free webinars: a photography crash course on February 12, a Debate 101 on February 15, and theme-related talks on February 21. Franz Lopez of BORN IN FILM, a community of visual creatives with more than 10,000 members worldwide, partnered with UP KAISA to conduct the photography webinar.
Schools may register for free via tinyurl.com/22ndISAW until February 14. For official mechanics, guidelines, and other resources, they may visit tinyurl.com/22ndISAWFiles.
The 22nd ISAW is brought by Parkwings and sponsored by Isabela’s Tutorial and Review Center. INQUIRER.NET and POP! are the event’s official media partners.
