Man marries himself after breakup with fiance

What do you do when your engagement gets called off?

Partner or none, one man in Brazil decided he still wanted the wedding to push through — even if it meant marrying himself.

Diogo Rabelo, a 33-year-old doctor, married himself at a beach wedding in Bahia last Oct. 17, O Globo via Indian Express reported on Nov. 8.

He was engaged to his boyfriend Vitor Bueno in November 2019, and they were set to tie the knot last September. However, they ended up parting ways in July.

Moving on from the breakup, Rabelo has taken self-love literally. He threw his own wedding which was attended by 40 people, according to the report.

Dashing in a tan suit, he walked down the aisle with a colorful bouquet in hand which he eventually tossed for his friends to catch.

He recited vows to himself through a mirror and wore a ring too, as seen in his wedding video posted on Oct. 29.

Rabelo addressed the man he would have married in one of his Instagram posts, telling him that he loved him and wished him happiness.

“Here I am, honoring my word. And yet I still respect you because I want you to be free to go wherever you want and to stay wherever you want,” he said.

“I analyzed the situation for a month, and decided that I had to appreciate and love myself,” Rabelo told the news outlet. “The message I wanted to send to people with this marriage of mine is not that of a victim, I do not depend on a marriage to be happy.” JB
