Born to Die singer Lana Del Rey received backlash from her fans for using a mesh mask in attending a poetry reading event at Barnes and Noble in Los Angeles over the weekend.
Lana wore a glittery mesh mask that doesn’t fully cover her nose and mouth. She read pieces of poetry from her newly released poetry collection, Violet Ben Backwards Over the Grass.
The said poetry event was a surprise for her fans in Los Angeles—the singer posted pictures and videos of herself at the event on Instagram, and fans commented and expressed their dismay on the singer’s mask.

The fans were concerned about the safety of those who attended the poetry reading and Lana’s choice of mask. They questioned the reliability of a mesh mask in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Chuck Grant, the brother of Lana, defended her, saying that Lana is negative of COVID-19, and they are following safety protocols at the event. Lana still has not yet commented on the backlash she has received.
But last Sunday she posted a video on her Instagram wearing a full face mask while reading a poem from her collection.

Being in the limelight can be hard for celebrities like Lana Del Rey who constantly receive criticisms or praises from their fans or haters, but some fans did defend the singer, saying that there must be a transparent mask made out of plastic inserted on the mesh mask.
It is understandable that we’re all in a pandemic and wearing a mask is a sign of being responsible to yourself and the people around you. It’s also important to be sensitive in choosing the mask to wear whether for fashion or safety purposes.
