“Resident Evil: Retribution” arrived with a vengeance in Philippine cinemas, opening with a spectacular P65-million gross for the Sept. 12-16 frame — the biggest debut ever for the wildly successful film franchise. This was announced today by Victor R. Cabrera, managing director of Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc.
Columbia Pictures’ 3D action-thriller “Resident Evil: Retribution,” the fifth installment of the wildly successful film franchise adaptation of the popular video game series, has been rated PG-13 Without Cuts by the Movie and Television Review & Classification Board (MTRCB).
The cast of Columbia Pictures’ new, 3D sci-fi action-thriller “Resident Evil: Retribution” includes many faces that will be familiar to fans of the franchise. The filmmakers devised an ingenious way to bring back characters who have met with brutal fates in earlier films, including Michelle Rodriguez’s Rain from the first “Resident Evil,” Sienna Guillory’s Jill Valentine from “Resident Evil: Apocalypse” and “Resident Evil: Afterlife,” Oded Fehr’s Carlos from “Apocalypse” and “Resident Evil: Extinction” as well as Boris Kodjoe’s Luther West and Shawn Roberts’ Albert Wesker from “Afterlife.”
As always, the central figure in the gritty and gripping fifth “Resident Evil” movie “Resident Evil: Retribution” is Alice, played once again with implacable ferocity by Milla Jovovich.
“Resident Evil,” the wildly successful film franchise adaptation of the popular video game series that has grossed nearly $700 million worldwide, returns with its highly anticipated fifth installment, “Resident Evil: Retribution,” written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.
It is a montage of scenes from the past “Resident Evil” movies, along with new footage from “Retribution,” that tells the story/history of the franchise leading up to the new film.
