Scientists prove that ‘hangry’ is a real and natural human emotion

In order to define the combined feeling of ‘hunger’ and ‘anger’ a new term was recently coined — hanger. Though it was coined without any scientific basis at that time, research says that it is actually a genuine emotion.

Imagine feeling as hungry as Bart Simpson…

No one’s definitely gonna stand between you and your food.

And now, you can tell people that you aren’t just making things up because scientists said that the feeling of ‘hanger’ is “triggered by our body’s physical response to craving food.”

According to Sophie Medlin, a lecturer in nutrition and dietetics from King’s College in London, the relationship between hunger and anger has long been known. But it was only recently that social media has put those two emotions together as hanger.

It happens “when our blood sugars drop, cortisol and adrenaline rise up in our bodies – our fight or flight hormones.” The reason that we feel the same response is because “the ones that trigger for hunger are the same ones that trigger for anger and rage and impulsive type behaviours,” added Medlin.

Furthermore, when our blood sugar drops, we find it hard to concentrate as well that it causes us to snap at someone.

Not only is hanger a legit emotion, it has been recently added to the Oxford English dictionary.

So are you hungry, angry, or hangry?
