Fans, management urge respect for BINI’s personal space amid recent incidents

It cannot be denied that BINI has become the “nation’s favorite girl group.” However, with their fame and the amount of attention they’ve been receiving, some things have just gotten out of hand.

In recent events, Star Magic head Lauren Dyogi has made a fervent appeal to fans and the public to respect the personal space and privacy of the P-pop girl group BINI. This plea comes in the wake of several disturbing incidents involving members Maloi and Aiah, who experienced unsettling moments during their personal time, highlighting the often blurred lines between public adulation and personal intrusion.

The issue gained widespread attention following the circulation of videos on social media platforms. In a TikTok video posted by a fan, Maloi was visibly uncomfortable as fans mobbed her while she was dining with her family at a restaurant in Lemery, Batangas. What was meant to be a private family outing turned into an impromptu meet-and-greet, with fans swamping their table and infringing on their personal time.

Similarly, another video that went viral showed a man asserting himself too close to Aiah at a bar in Cebu, causing the singer visible discomfort and unease. These incidents sparked outrage among BINI’s fanbase, known as ‘Blooms,’ and other social media users who expressed their concern and disappointment over the lack of respect shown to the idols.

Lauren Dyogi, addressing these incidents, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday night, July 4, to share his concerns and appeal for respect. “I was able to see some very disturbing videos of some of our members who didn’t seem to enjoy their break from the very stressful three-night concert. They went to public places because they wanted to unwind and spend some time with their families, but unfortunately, naka-experience po sila ng hindi magaganda [they experienced something troubling.]” Dyogi stated in his video message.

Dyogi emphasized the humanity of the BINI members, asserting that despite their celebrity status, they are individuals who also need and deserve privacy and personal space. His plea was further reinforced by a formal statement from Star Music, condemning the disrespectful behavior towards Aiah and calling for fans to exhibit more considerate conduct.

BINI, managed by Kapamilya talent management company Star Magic, has rapidly gained popularity, earning the moniker ‘Nation’s Girl Group’ with hits like ‘Pantropiko’ and ‘Salamin, Salamin’ that have become dance sensations. The group recently concluded a highly successful three-day BINIverse concert at the New Frontier Theater, which further elevated their prominence in the P-pop scene. However, this increased visibility has also brought challenges, as evidenced by the recent incidents involving Maloi and Aiah.

In his appeal, Dyogi reiterated the importance of respecting the personal time of the BINI members, especially when they are with their families and friends. “Nakikiusap po ako, personally as part of the BINI team, na sana po ‘pag ang ating mga miyembro ay nasa kanilang…spending their personal time especially with their families and friends, to please also show respect to their privacy and personal space [I am personally requesting, as part of the BINI team, that when our members are spending their personal time, especially with their families and friends, to please also show respect to their privacy and personal space.]” Dyogi implored.

He acknowledged the enthusiasm and excitement of fans but urged them to consider the rigorous schedules and the need for downtime for the artists. This appeal aligns with sentiments expressed by other industry veterans, including Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez, who advised BINI to enjoy their performances and embrace the love from their audience, while also recognizing the importance of personal boundaries.

The incidents involving Maloi and Aiah serve as poignant reminders of the delicate balance between fan interaction and respect for personal space. As BINI continues to rise in fame, it is imperative for fans to support their idols in a manner that respects their humanity and personal well-being, ensuring that moments of public admiration do not encroach upon their private lives.
