There’s finally a stoplight for texting pedestrians and it’s awesome AF

With the evolution of today’s smartphone technology, people have become less attentive to their surroundings and more focused on their mobile gadgets. Though it may seem harmless at first, it can actually become a hazard when it involves a pedestrian’s safety.

Luckily, local government officials in the town of Bodegraven, Netherlands, have found a solution to this impending problem. They’ve installed a device that emits colored LED lights on the pavement, to inform texting pedestrians of when to stop and when to go.

Similar to a traffic light, the colored strip of light will flash green to signal mobile users to cross and red to let them know that they should stop walking.

Although this device has only been installed in one road intersection, Dutch officials are hopeful of its positive impact to the community.

Overall, we definitely approve of their initiative to address the pedestrian safety, and we only hope that this device can be implemented in other parts of the world, including the Philippines.
