I think many of us can agree that Filipino cuisine has some of the tastiest and most creative snacks the culinary world has to offer. From the savory taste of our skewered street food items to the sweet flavor of our rice delicacies or kakanin, the local food scene is one that’s diverse and full of unique flavors. So, it’s not surprising that many of us get “homesick” for these kinds of foods whenever we go on long international travels or vacations.
This time around, a new kind of Filipino snack is hitting the metro and it has the unlikely combination of fish and chocolate.
Choc-Oh-Dilis is one of the newest Philippine-made products and it is made of chocolate-covered dried fish bits.
Though the somewhat strange combination of the two primary ingredients might turn off some shoppers, the snack is actually quite delicious. In fact, here’s what we think about it after sampling (and almost finishing) its different variants.
It’s the perfect combination of sweet and salty
Choc-Oh-Dilis comes in three flavors namely Chocolate, White Chocolate, and Dark Chocolate. And the sweetness level in these three variants balances the saltiness of the fish–making it the ideal sweet and salty snack.
The packaging is cute and easy-to-carry
Stored inside a lightweight and resealable plastic bag, this snack can easily be carried around and stored inside your handbags. Not to mention, its packaging contains a cute caricature of a fish bathing in a pool of melted chocolate.
