Tweets sent from a refrigerator and video game consoles have raked in thousands of likes and shares in the past weeks, as well as a good amount of skepticism. The Twitter user who sent them runs an Ariana Grande fan account and claims her mom took her phone away.
The Twitter user (@thankunext327) identified herself to The Guardian on Tuesday, Aug. 13 as a 15-year-old girl named Dorothy. She said her mom confiscated her phone after she caused a fire because she got distracted while cooking. According to the report, Dorothy communicated through her cousin’s iPad.
Dorothy earned attention on Aug. 5 when she tweeted through her Nintendo DS that her mom took her phone away. In the days that followed, she said that her Nintendo DS was also confiscated and that she was posting from her video game console Wii U.

Dorothy drew media attention after a viral tweet which was supposedly sent from an LG refrigerator. It has over 78,000 likes as of writing.

Twitter users have rallied behind her through a “#FreeDorothy” hashtag. Both the official accounts of Twitter and the U.S. LG Electronics have posted the hashtag in support of the grounded teen.

On Twitter, the tweet source shows what device a tweet is being sent from. However, this could be overridden through some programming, as seen in this Reddit thread.
An LG spokesperson told Buzzfeed News in a report on Wednesday, Aug. 14 that its devices do not have a Twitter app.
Dorothy maintained to New York Magazine that it was all real. “I wish it was a joke,” she told the publication in a report on Tuesday, claiming she was using her cousin’s iPod. JB
