LOOK: Disney animated movies that are borderline disturbing

Back then, life was like a Disney movie. Because when something bad happened, there was always someone who had your back–be it a parental figure, a friend, or maybe even your version of prince charming. To simply put it, everything had a resolution.

But now that you’re an adult, you tend to look back on those fun moments being a kid and dealing with situations like having to bargain between watching a Disney movie or having an afternoon nap (obviously, many of us chose the former).

Because of moments like these, children’s movies and Disney princesses have become a part of our childhood and have made us admirers of their “happily ever after” outcomes.

But what if you found out that your favorite movies as a child weren’t so dreamy, after all? What if you realized that Beauty and the Beast isn’t really #relationshipgoals material? And what if the prince’s kiss in Sleeping Beauty wasn’t as romantic as we thought it was?

As much as we hate to break your heart and ruin your childhood, we’ve listed down 5 children’s movies that are borderline disturbing now that you think of it.

Beauty and the Beast

You may have admired Belle for turning down the arrogant Gaston and she may have dazed you with her “books over boys” mood. But have you realized this supposedly feel-good film is actually really disturbing?

Belle and the Beast met when the cold-hearted prince-turned-creature kept her father prisoner for stealing a rose from his garden.  Belle, on the other hand, as a loving daughter, rescued her father by making an arrangement with the Beast to hold her captive in exchange for her father’s freedom. The Beast was very cruel to Belle yet, this feeble dame ended up falling in love with him! Isn’t that a clear case of Stockholm Syndrome?

An angle of bestiality can also be seen in the film. Think about it, Belle did not have any idea that the Beast was the lost Prince Adam and yet, she still considered having a relationship with him. I mean, okay we get it, love shouldn’t be based on physical appearances alone, but Belle was willing to share romantic moments with the Beast without knowing that he can transform back into a human. That sounds like a case of bestiality in my book!

The Little Mermaid

A courageous princess, who’s been sheltered all her life has finally decided to follow her heart and break all the rules to seize the ambiguity of uncertainty.

Isn’t that brave and inspiring? Well actually, no.

Ariel is the youngest in her family. She is fully aware of the dangers on land as her father King Triton and friends constantly point out Yet, she decides to risk everything in her life including her family for a man who’s already set to get married! What a brat right? Not quite a good example for the little ones. Well, at least we enjoyed her three- minute performance of “Part of Your World”.

Sleeping Beauty

Believe it or not, Aurora was living the best time of her life when she was just lying there, sleeping. Okay fine, that was just an exaggeration but really, who doesn’t enjoy a good night’s sleep right?

Some think that it’s romantic to be kissed while they are asleep, but that kiss from Sleeping Beauty is far from being considered sweet. For starters, the prince was basically a stranger and Aurora was unconscious when it happened. It was obviously non-consensual. That kiss was not true love, it was obviously sexual misconduct!

Snow White

There is no sense in arguing, whether or not the seven dwarfs are adorable. I mean, aren’t these Bonnies so dear? And oh, Snow White is certainly such a sweetheart! But this film from Disney is also a disturbing one for the little ones.

The first eleven minutes of the film showed how Snow White’s cruel step-mother commanded the huntsman to kill the poor maiden. The evil queen even asked him to put her heart into a box as proof of her death! What can be more gruesome than that?

This is the first story to get animated–probably where Walt Disney got his obviously, not- so brilliant idea that a non- consensual kiss is romantic.

101 Dalmatians

The 101 Dalmatians may be the first doggos that we loved as a child. For sure, most of the folks who watched the film, have wanted to pet one!

Do you remember, Cruella De Vil from the film? She was the villain who madly fancied skinning these poor fluff babies to make her designer coat! Doesn’t that scream animal cruelty? C’mon Cruella, even Miranda Priestly doesn’t approve. FM
