Here’s why you’re going to love ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ sequel ‘When Life Gives You Lululemons’

Warning: This post may contain spoilers from the book.

Viewers who loved Emily Blunt’s portrayal of Emily Charlton in The Devil Wears Prada, are in for a treat as the character returns in the Lauren Weisberger novel When Life Gives You Lululemons.

The novel takes place years after Emily has left Miranda Priestly in Runway. Managing a career in public relations, Emily succeeds as an image consultant to A-list celebrities. That is until an up-and-coming publicist challenges her career and recruits many of her clientele. Emily is then forced to take a step back and reassess her career options. When she finds an unlikely client in Karolina, the soon-to-be ex-wife of a famous US Senator, she is thrust back into the world of drama, gossip, and even politics.

It’s a story that will not only make you laugh at Emily’s unconventional antics but will also make you appreciate her compassionate yet uncompromising personality.

To get you even more excited about the book, here are a few reasons why it should definitely be on your must-read list this year:

Varying shades of ‘Girl Power’

Everyone who has read or seen The Devil Wears Prada can agree that Emily Charlton’s snarky and unapologetic personality is what makes her a strong woman.

In the novel, readers can still enjoy Emily’s unique level of sass and confidence but with a bit more depth into her personal life. There, we see her vulnerable and maternal side as a wife, a friend, and a would-be mother.

Additionally, Emily is not the only strong female character in the novel. Readers are introduced to New-York-lawyer-turned-suburban-mom, Miriam; and Senator Graham Hartwell’s soon-to-be ex-wife Karolina.

Through these characters, women can feel more empowered to excel in their chosen careers.

The return of Miranda Priestly

Just when you thought Emily was done with Runway, Miranda Priestly shows up and offers Emily another chance to work for her. Much like her persona in The Devil Wears Prada, she’s still as intimidating as ever.

In this story, however, Miranda takes on a new role as Emily Charlton’s “friend” and savior — an unlikely scenario for the ‘Queen Bee’ of Runway.

The book also shows a short conversation between Emily Charlton and Andy Sachs — the character famously portrayed by Anne Hathaway in the movie adaptation.

A potential third book

With the book’s open-ended finale, it seems like there’s potential for another book in The Devil Wears Prada series and we definitely can’t wait for it to happen.  So to Weisberger, we say…
