Aly Alindayu breaks silence on viral ‘Englishera’ remark, addresses backlash

After weeks of online backlash, Aly Alindayu, a participant in Marion Aunor’s “Pusuan or Laruan” dating game, has finally spoken out about her viral “Englishera” remark on the show.

Describing the incident as “the worst experience of my life” in an Instagram post, Alindayu revealed that she has been receiving hateful direct messages (DMs), being turned into memes and sound bites, and even facing death threats.

Alindayu addressed the viral episode clip, originally posted in August 2024, explaining that she was merely “echoing what people have said to her” but acknowledged that she could have phrased it differently.

Regarding her “Englishera” comment, she clarified that while she may not have a typical American accent, English is her first language.

“I may not have the typical American accent that you’re expecting but English is my first language. I spoke Taglish because it’s a Filipino show and I was adjusting. I hope you can see that I was trying,” she stated.

Alindayu acknowledged the support she received from friends, strangers, and public figures who defended her despite the criticism. She expressed appreciation for those who stood by her, including creators and celebrities she admires.

Social media users shared their thoughts in the comments on her statement, with some showing support while others still offered criticism.

Instead of focusing on the criticism, she made the decision to turn her experience into something meaningful. “After this I want to be an advocate for bullying. If you guys know where I can start, I am all ears. Maybe a podcast! I want to help other people because I do not wish this at all,” she stated, expressing her desire to use her platform to promote positive change.
