Amidst the 43rd anniversary of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the agency unveiled its new logo. Much like other government agencies, the redesign incorporates the colors of the Philippine flag along with other elements, such as the three stars, the sun, and the country’s national bird, the Philippine eagle.
In a statement during the agency’s event, MIAA General Manager Eric Jose Ines explained that the redesigned logo reflects the agency’s role as the regulator of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, with a mission to “modernize and enhance the airport experience for passengers while ensuring the airport’s long-term sustainability.”
“The launch of our new identity represents a significant step in our journey toward becoming a regulatory authority that prioritizes safety, efficiency, and innovation,” Ines added.
While the rationale behind MIAA’s new logo sounds good on paper, it appears that this move was met with jeers. This begs the question: Is this just another case of rebranding gone wrong? According to the general public, the answer is yes…and for so many reasons.
Many Filipinos took to social media to share their thoughts on the new logo, saying the previous logo looked much better, while others poked fun at it.
Some users, on the other hand, redesigned MIAA’s new logo, incorporating the same elements but executing it differently.
One Facebook user also shared that MIAA had a logo-making contest design back in 2023, and he won. He then expressed his disappointment, questioning the agency’s purpose of the contest if they’re not going to use the winning entry.
Some also called out MIAA for allegedly copying the eagle element from another logo. Alongside the plagiarism issue, netizens also criticized MIAA’s budget for their rebranding campaign, which amounts to a whopping cost of Php 5 million.
As of this writing, MIAA has yet to release a statement.
