‘Project Nightfall’ apologizes for sharing incorrect story about Filipino chess prodigy

Agon Hare, also known as Project Nightfall, deleted his ‘error-filled’ viral post about Filipino chess prodigy Bince Rafael Operiano who was supposed to be traveling to Thailand alone for a competition in 2022.

Hare then issued an apology upon being called out by his audience.

In a Facebook post, he wrote, “Nightfam, it has come to our attention that we committed a factual error in a recent post and we’d like to make sure we take accountability for it.”

The YouTuber shared a viral story of a young chess champion who supposedly slept at the airport and had to travel alone for an international competition “hoping to highlight what seemed like a young boy’s determination to reach his dream” to spread more inspiration online.

“However, thanks to feedback from our attentive audience, we learned that this story isn’t entirely true and that this kid was in fact financially supported by his country’s sports commission,” he continued.

The post has since been deleted and Hare appreciates the audience calling them out so they “can keep being a positive voice on the Internet.”

“As we’ve been doing this for 5 years, every now and then, we too make mistakes and are grateful for the opportunity to learn from them. Thank you for understanding and for holding us accountable. Wishing you all a great year ahead,” he ended his post.

His statement garnered mixed reactions from social media users who took to the comments to share their thoughts about his apology.

One user wrote, “Thank you for this clarification, and for owning up to your mistake.. your humility and kind diligence says a lot and we do hope other famous content creators can have the balls to admit such lapses.. cheers and Godspeed.”

Another user wrote, “This begs the question. Where did you get the info you intially shared? Or was it made up just to get people’s attention? And that if no one calls you out, you would have kept the story?”

“You’re human,(we all are) entitled to commit mistakes. Just be more careful next time,” a third user wrote.
