BLACKPINK Lisa’s VMAs 2024 performance ranked ‘worst’ by Billboard, New York Post

On September 11, BLACKPINK Lisa made her solo debut at the 2024 MTV Video Music Award, where she performed her new songs “New Woman” and “Rockstar” with a crew of dancers.

She took home the “Best K-Pop” award for “Rockstar,” an added milestone in her career.

Her performance appeared to fall short of the expectations set for a BLACKPINK member, leading to criticisms and disappointments from both social media users and critics.

Billboard ranked all 16 VMAs performances from Worst to Best, Ranking Lisa’s solo performance #16 at the bottom of the list. Billboard said it was “a swing and a miss.”

“The BLACKPINK member has proven herself adept at killer choreography and eye-popping visuals in the past, but LISA’s solo turn at the 2024 VMAs felt like a swing and a miss. “New Woman” could have used a little oomph from Rosalía, and the “Rockstar” choreography was solid but never head-turning, much less show-stopping.”

The New York Post gave the performance a harsh criticism, calling Lisa a K-flop and was among the performances that was ranked ‘Worst.’

“After getting an introduction by Paris Hilton — who threw in her catchphrase “That’s hot”— Lisa was absolutely not. This K-pop singer was more of a K-flop when she performed with an army of dancers who couldn’t save her from the pure cheesiness that left us all wondering how she even got the invite.”

Online there was varying response for Lisa’s performance, some ‘locals’ which are those who are not fans of Lisa, showed their displeasure on her ‘lip sync’ performance.

Although there are also Lilies, who are Blackpink Lisa’s fans, that enjoyed and was hyped with her performance.

In December of 2023, Lisa was among her other BLACKPINK members that did not renew their solo contracts with the company YG, but still continued their contract for group activities.

Lisa is currently in partnership with RCA records, a record label owned by Sony Music Entertainment, where she has full ownership of all her recordings.
