SB19 member Stell’s look-alike has been the topic of conversation lately online, after appearing in an episode of It’s Showtime which aired last September 3.
Prior to the airing of this segment, Stell had already been the recent subject of memes, in which an old photo of his had been resurfaced, with some memes bordering on bullying and face shaming as it poked fun on his earlier look.
During the “Kalokalike Face 4” segment on It’s Showtime, a contestant named Jeon Cyrus impersonated the SB19 member. However, people online have started mocking the contestant.
Social media users took to social media to share their thoughts about the said episode. Some are calling out people who have been openly mocking the contestant’s appearance, and using it as a springboard to also mock Stell’s appearance.
Kaya wag nyo gagamitin yung natrative na yan [When people who didn’t look like vice, teddy, MJ, bruce lee, lady gaga, mariah carey joined, yes the contestants were laughed at but their impersonators were not bashed. But why are you bashing Stell’s impersonator and Stell?? So don’t use that narrative].”
Another user wrote, “ang problema kasi ginawa niyo pang excuse yung kalokalike segment para majustify yung pang ookray niyo noon pa man kay Stell at pagiging mapagpintas niyo. Iba talaga pag perfect. [The problem here is because you made the kalokalike segment an excuse to justify your criticism of Stell and you being judgemental. It’s really different when you’re perfect].”
“Sensitive mga fans sa naging reaction ng mga tao sa kalokalike ni stell kasi nung nagsisimula pa lang yung sb19 hanggang ngayon, pinagtatawanan niyo itsura nila. di naman sila t—a para isipin na dahil lang sa kalokalike niya kaya kayo tumatawa [Fans are sensitive to people’s reaction to Stell’s appearance because when sb19 was just starting until now, you make fun of their looks. They are not stupid enough to think that you are laughing at his impersonator],” as written by a third user.
Other social media users pointed out that there was nothing wrong with his impersonation and the reactions were somehow expected.
Although the segment is meant to be funny and be a source of entertainment, this does not mean that unacceptable behavior such as bullying and face shaming should be tolerated. Think before typing comments online.
