Social media users bid farewell to Metrowalk Ortigas by sharing their core memories of it

If there was one place in Ortigas that filled people with nostalgia every time they passed by it, it would be Metrowalk Ortigas.

Nestled in Ortigas and a place where people would come after working hard to play hard, Metrowalk Ortigas has always been a sentimental place for many in the area. If the younger generation now has the nightlife of Poblacion, Katip, and BGC, the older ones have Metrowalk Ortigas.

It was a place for both family and fun—there were restaurants and cafés like Big Daddy’s and Starbucks while there were also some places to hang out like Decades Barand Aruba. Metrowalk Ortigas was just that place, you know?

But now, it seems like the beloved hangout place for many is becoming a memory in the past and will be demolished to give way to the construction of the Ortigas station of the Metro Manila Subway.

The subway, projected to be finished by 2029, will span 33 kilometers, connecting the north and south between Valenzuela, Quezon City, Pasig, Taguig, Parañaque, and Pasay. This will have 17 stations between the East Valenzuela and Bictuan stations of the Philippine National Railway and will connect a line to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. It is dubbed to reduce the travel time from Quezon City to NAIA to 35 minutes from the already 1 hour and 10 minutes.

In a post made on July 16, 2024, the Facebook page Manila Street Snap featured the Metrowalk Commercial Complex.

Gaining about 12,000 reactions, 2.8k comments, and 6.7k shares, the post was captioned, “Metro Walk Commercial Complex used to be a bustling hub filled with lively restaurants, bars, and shops. It was a popular destination for both locals and tourists seeking entertainment and nightlife. However, over the years, the once-vibrant spot has experienced a decline in foot traffic and business activity. Many establishments have closed down, leaving the complex with empty storefronts and an eerily quiet atmosphere. What was once a thriving social hotspot now feels like a ghost town, stark contrast to its former glory days.”

Many social media users reminisced their memories at Metrowalk Ortigas, the places they’ve eaten at, and many mentioned how the place played a significant role in their own personal lives.

Even if it’s really closing down in the future, Metrowalk Ortigas will always hold a sentimental part in many Urban Filipinos’ lives—especially to those who frequented it in their youth.
