According to a recent report, Kate Middleton’s cancer battle may cause her to remain out of the spotlight longer but also have an impact on her position within the royal family.
Since telling the world in March that she had cancer, the Princess of Wales has mostly avoided the spotlight.
Furthermore, a source told Us Weekly that she “may never come back in the role that people saw her in before.”
The mother of three is presently “reevaluating what she’s going to be able to take on when she comes back,” the insider continued, having undergone preventative chemotherapy after an unidentified cancer diagnosis.
Princess Catherine’s return to work will “be [based] on medical advice, and it will be very carefully balanced,” according to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams. This report comes just weeks after a source suggested that 42-year-old Middleton might not make any public appearances as a working royal for the remainder of the year.
“Lots of people involved in planning need to know what all the principals are doing a long way in advance. I am told that Kate’s diary for this year is empty. There is nothing planned. She may not appear in public for the rest of the year,” a royal insider reported last month.
“I would not rule out another video message updating the country on her health,” the source said. “That proved to be a very effective way of keeping the conspiracy theorists at bay,” they continued.
It seems as though time away from the public eye has been good for her, as the course of preventative chemotherapy has reportedly been successful. The royal’s family friend told Vanity Fair that they are in great relief that she is doing a lot better and in tolerating the medication.
The Princess said in a pre-recorded video on March 22 that her cancer was found by medical professionals during a scheduled abdominal surgery in January.
