Trigger warning: Violence
36-year-old Arielle Konig is taking legal action against her husband, Dr. Gerhardt Konig, after he attempted to murder her during their hike in Oahu, Hawaii. Gerhardt reportedly showed signs of aggression after Arielle refused to take a photo with him near the edge of the trail at Pali Puka in Honolulu.
Reports per court documents revealed that Arielle “did not feel comfortable taking a picture with him that close to the edge, so she declined and began to walk back.” An affidavit obtained by E! News stated that her decline had “angered” the anesthesiologist, and he later began yelling at her, saying, “I’m so f-cking sick of you!”

Authorities stated in a report covered by NBC News that Gerhardt pushed Arielle into the bushes near the trail and struck her head with a rock 10 times, “while also grabbing the back of her hair and smashing her face into the ground.”
Arielle reported that Gerhardt had taken two syringes out of his bag and attempted to use them on her before she managed to get away from him. His attack only stopped when other hikers were reported to have approached the area, with one of them identified as Amanda who claimed that she heard Arielle’s yell for help.
Amanda’s hiking partner had called authorities in the emergency, and Gerhardt was later caught. He is currently held on a $5 million bail.
Arielle had just been granted a restraining order against Gerhardt and was reported to have been taken to Queens Medical Center by ambulance in serious but stable condition.
While a representative for Gerhardt is yet to speak on his charges, Arielle’s lawyer shared that she is now “focusing on her recovery in Maui with the support of her family,” and kindly requests the media and the public to respect her privacy in her time of recovery.
